Vegetables Seed distrebustin IGA The south west area of Bangladesh is very risk for climate change. Some environmental hazards are directly spreading the food security and livelihoods of the people in this area day by day. At present the main threats of sustainable livelihood and food security has been created by the climate change. Not only are these, the problems in this area controlled by increasing the hazards of climate change. In 2009 cyclone Aila affected this area and destroyed huge amount of live stocks, houses, human lives etc. After Aila saline water are available everywhere. As a result agriculture activities are not seen in this area. We want to start paddy cultivation, live stocks -agricultural product in their yard or their small field. They cannot get pure drinking water. After cyclone Aila SAMS has done something for the Aila affected Munda people. SAMS has bought some lands and built their houses. We settled 100 families in our new five villages from Koyra (Khulna) and Gabura (Shyamnagar). We think if we support them, then they cultivate various vegetables, trees and they prepared a nursery in their small field.

Sundarban Adibasi Munda Sangastha (SAMS) is a community organization of Sundarban Coastal area. In the Sundarban area there are about 450 indigenous Munda families live and most of the Munda families vulnerable from other community in the Sundarban Coastal area. Their main economical sources depend on their daily day labourer. Once upon a time they have lot of cultivable land but at present most of them live in Khas land. The indigenous Munda community has lost their traditional occupation and traditional knowledge because of frequently climate disaster in the coastal area.
After cyclone Aila in 2009 Sundarban Adibasi Munda Sangastha (SAMS) settle down about 100 families from Shyamnagar Upazila under Satkhira District and Koyra Upazila under Khulna District. Our honorable Fr. Luigi Paggi S.X. has financial supported us to implement rehabilitation for vulnerable Munda community. They have lost their living lands, domestic animals, land papers and many important things. Six new villages are set up after cyclone Aila in 2009. These village names are Jelekhali Mundapara under Munshigonj Union, Shyamnagar, Satkhira; Shrifalkati Mundapara under Ishwaripur Union, Shyamnagar; Arodangi Mundapara under Nagarghat Union, Tala, Satkhira; Krishnanagar Mundapara and Bagdanga Mundapara under Khalishkhali Union, Tala, Satkhira. These Munda families have got citizenship of local Union Parishad.
Every year the Coastal people faced Cyclones, Stroms, Flood and natural disasters frequently. As a result they lost their houses, livestocks, valuable furnitures, home state gardens and agricultural crops every year. The coastal people try to recover again and decorate their houses and home state gardens according to their new dreams. During emergency period of different Cyclones and Floods Sundarban Adibasi Munda Sangastha (SAMS) has provided emergency food package and cash support. Most of the coastal people are suffering for pure drinking water. Every year the river embankment breaks down and saline water entered the villages. As a result surface water sources destroyed by saline water. These situations are happen frequently every year.
Last May 26, 2021 cyclone YAAS partly hit this area and river embankment has broken. The river water entered the villages and make natural flood. The Munda people cannot work regularly. So, they need food for their family members. On the other hand, COVID-19 pandemic situation spread out seriously in our District level and Bangladesh government announced LOCK DOWN several time. The day labour people cannot earn money for their family.
Emergency responds:
Sundarban Adibasi Munda Sangstha (SAMS) has distributed about 350 (Three hundred and Fifty) food packages on 06-09 July, 2021 among indigenous and marginalized people in Gabura, Padmapukur, Burigoalini, Munshigonj, Ishwaripur, Ramjan Nagar, Atulia and Shyamnagar Sadar Unions under Shyamnagar Upazila, Satkhira. SAMS has distributed these food support at village level related Unions.
Last 7-8 September, 2021 SAMS has distributed emergency food and hygiene support for the marginalized community in Shyamangar Upazila under Satkhira Distrct and Koyra Upazila under Khulna District. Total 400 families have got this support. We have distributed 200 emergency food and hygiene packets for Burgoalini and Ishwaripur Unions under Shyamnagar Upazila and 200 food and hygiene packets for Koyra Sadar and Uttar Bedkashi Unions under Koyra Upazila. The marginalized people are very pleased to get this support. SAMS is very grateful to SPREEHA Bangladesh Foundation and United Commercial Bank Limited. We believe that, this support will helpful for their family members for two weeks.
Anyway, Sundarban Adibasi Munda Sangastha (SAMS) always with our community people in the Sundarban Coastal area. During the pandemic situation, climate disaster and emergency period Sundarban Adibasi Munda Sangastha (SAMS) stand for the project beneficiaries with helping hands. During the COVID-19 pandemic situation Sundarban Adibasi Munda Sangastha (SAMS) supported emergency food and cash support for 1000 families in Shyamnagar and Koyra Upazila under Satkhira and Khulna District and supported by UNDP. There are also about 1204 families has got emergency food support in 2020-2021 (Shyamnagar and Koyra Upazila), 948 families for emergency food in 2021 (Shyamnagar and Koyra Upazila).In 2020-2021 there are about 387 families has emergency cash support for Shyamnagar Upazila and Supported by Mnusher Jonno Foundation.
